Prashant Kishor moots Sonia Gandhi as Congress chief, new working president Sandeep Phukan Nistula Hebbar APRIL 21, 2022 https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/prashant-kishor-to-negotiate-future-role-in-congress-after-panel-report/article65342508.ece
Mr. Kishor gives the preferred option of Ms. Gandhi continuing as the party president, with a non-Gandhi as working president; recommends revival of the Parliamentary Board, with Rahul Gandhi heading it and suggests Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the general secretary in-charge of coordination. Another slide pitched Mr. Gandhi as the leader of the Parliamentary party who will have a shadow cabinet, offering “collective credibility”
Create a new Congress that become a choice for masses; protect the party’s legacy and core principles; liberate [the party] from inertia and status quo, destroy the sense of entitlement, sycophancy and lack of accountability; conceal the baggage of nepotism and corruption; and connect with the masses, become their voice and reflect their aspirations.
The strategist has suggested the Congress focus on contesting 358 Lok Sabha seats across 17 States alone, 168 seats across five States with regional parties and 17 seats in the NorthEast with smaller partners.
Stressing on the need to target 30 crore voters out of an electorate size of 104 crore, Mr Kishor has proposed a completely new architecture of election management, with an election task force advising the Congress president.
The poll strategist has also suggested a completely new communication architecture to create a “surround sound” of the party’s campaigns across multiple platforms.

In 2014, the youth of northern India believed Narendra Modi offered them hope of a better, more secure future.. in 2019 they still voted for him because the opposition had offered no alternative vision of the future either. Three years have passed and there is still no clear perception of the threat that a continuation of BJP rule poses to India’s future .– and still no offer of an alternative, better future. So, it is looking more and more as if the BJP will win the 2024 general elections too.
There is an even chance that by 2029 the Indian Union will cease to exist.
How a Reliance-funded firm boosts BJP’s campaigns on Facebook By Kumar Sambhav and Nayantara Ranganathan 14 Mar 2022 https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2022/3/14/how-a-reliance-funded-company-boosts-bjps-campaigns-on-facebook
Loopholes in how the Election Commission of India (ECI) applies the law and a selective application of Facebook’s rules and processes allowed India’s largest conglomerate to pump in millions of rupees to place and promote these surrogate advertisements to boost the reach and popularity of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in the lead up to the 2019 parliamentary elections and nine state elections. Surrogate advertisements promote a political candidate but are not directly funded or authorised by that candidate.
When Facebook did crack down on surrogate advertisements, ostensibly to ensure transparency and accountability, it did so by mostly targeting advertisers promoting BJP’s main opponent, Congress, but allowed pages like NEWJ (New Emerging World of Journalism Limited, is a subsidiary of Jio Platforms Ltd, to continue.)
Over the past year, The Reporters’ Collective (TRC), a non-profit media organisation based in India, and ad.watch, a research project studying political ads on social media, analysed data of all the 536,070 political advertisements placed on Facebook and Instagram from February 2019 through November 2020 to assess the influence of Facebook’s political advertising policies on elections in the country. They found that in those 22 months, Facebook’s advertising platform systematically undercut the political competition in the world’s largest electoral democracy, giving an unfair advantage to the BJP over its competitors.

Part 3: Out today: Facebook is actually charging a lower rate for the BJP than for parties like the Congress. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2022/3/16/facebook-charged-bjp-lower-rates-for-india-polls-ads-than-others
Farmers’ leaders, activists debunk exit polls; media cut off from ground realities, says Hannan Mollah https://www.nationalheraldindia.com/india/farmers-leaders-activists-debunk-exit-polls-media-cut-off-from-ground-realities-says-hannan-mollah
Hannan Mollah, one of those who led farmers’ protest against farm laws, later withdrawn by PM, said that television media has lost its credibility, as past exit polls had turned out to be inaccurate
All the farmers’ unions including AIKS – under the banner of SKM, an umbrella body of 40 farmers’ unions –campaigned against the BJP in all five states that went to the polls, with a special focus on Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. When asked whether the farmers' protests had failed to mobilize farmers as an anti-BJP force, Mollah said, “Only history can tell the truth. An unbiased study is required to gauge the impact of the protest on society.”
SKM emphatically asked people to punish the BJP which they believe is responsible for the death of over 700 farmers while the protests were underway.

Indian Electoral Politics: Shifting Sands
Seven decades down the line the electoral scene has changed for the worse and is currently dominated by emotive issues. The foundation of derailing the ‘this worldly’ issues was the Ram Temple movement. This movement became stronger after the implementation of Mandal Commission report. Since then the domination of emotive, identity issues is on the rise. This is reflected by the fact that in 2019, no party dared to utter the word secularism, as claimed by the winner of 2019 elections, Mr. Narendra Modi himself. He presented it as a trophy for the efforts of RSS-BJP’s political success.
https://countercurrents.org/2022/11/indian-electoral-politics-shifting-sands/
It is in this track that any issue can be given a religious turn as we witnessed its peak in the coining of phrase ‘Corona Jihad’. This showed how electoral politics can be reduced merely to game of identity issues. BJP has mastered this art over a period of last few decades. The media, which is prostrating to BJP ideology, is putting its best efforts to magnify the doings of communal stream.
Not to be left behind, Arvind Kejrival is trying to compete which these divisive efforts revolving around identity issues, in his own unique smart ways. The AAP, which in a way, is an alternate model of communal politics; is playing its Hindutva/communal card with shrewdness. Kajriwal party is also an example of blind subservience to the dictator by the other leaders of that party. As Kejriwal demanded this; all his cronies, stated saying the same. The peak of this was Atishi Marlena, who stated that this demand of Laxmi-Ganesh is not merely Kejriwal demand, it is the aspiration of 130 crore Indians! Most of the dictatorial tendencies believe they are speaking for the whole country. This is a duplicate of what Narendra Modi, when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat, used to say that he is talking on behalf of Five Crore Gujratis. India needs a party which can accommodate all sections of society with equality and dignity, apart from welfare; it also promotes employment and proactively deals with marginalized sections of society. We need a party where religion is not mixed with politics. For many, AAP began with a big promise for a better politics, but its reality is there for all to see with its trajectory leading to demanding Laxmi and Ganesh on currency notes and dumping of Jan Lokpal in the dustbin of Hisotry!
