The Bombay high court on Friday, January 23, granted bail to cultural activists Sagar Gorkhe and Ramesh Gaichor, arrested in connection with the 2018 Elgar Parishad case. Gorkhe and Gaichor are among the 16 persons who were arrested at different points in the infamous Elgar Parishad case. Of the 16, Jharkhand- based Jesuit priest and activist Father Stan Swamy died in custody in 2021. Swamy was 84 at the time of his death.

Political parties in Manipur file FIRs against PUCL over controversial report https://nenow.in/north-east-news/manipur/political-parties-in-manipur-file-firs-against-pucl-over-controversial-report.html August 28, 2025 The Manipur People’s Party (MPP), one of the oldest regional parties, filed an FIR at the Imphal police station on Wednesday against the Delhi-based PUCL.
The Manipur state unit of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) also filed an FIR alleging that the report hinders peace efforts and may incite communal tension by falsely portraying the Meiteis as the aggressors.
Additionally, the Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council, condemned the report as biased and stated that it would also lodge an FIR soon.

KNO is an umbrella body of several Kuki armed groups in Manipur. Its constituent groups are currently under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India , which is a ceasefire arrangement aimed at political dialogue.

In a defamation case against Paranjoy Thakurta, a court has order, issued on September 6, directed the removal of defamatory content from their respective articles and social media posts within five days. Based on this, The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) on Tuesday issued takedown notices to 13 digital news publishers on YouTube and Instagram for disseminating defamatory content related to Adani Enterprises Ltd.The ministry’s order names journalists, media houses, and creators — including Newslaundry, Ravish Kumar, Dhruv Rathee, The Wire, HW News Network, and Aakash Banerjee’s The Deshbhakt — who have received a list of 138 YouTube video URLs and 83 Instagram links to be taken down.
