Unfortunately the first part of this interview was Karan Thapar trying to trap Kishore into controversies about his relationships with TMS, Goa, Nitesh, Congress etc.. so much so that Karan tried the last rick of being condescending and disarming, in the garb of being a interviewer. This post only refers to the second half of the interview which offers much to think about.. https://youtu.be/6BdgH3-oP-k?t=2210

In this interview with Karan Thapar, Prashant Kishore talk about the triple plank of BJP which is Hindutva,  Hyper-Nationalism and individual and household welfarism, has taken them to 40% of the vote.  The Opposition particularly the Congress has to develop a better value proposition how it can attract the other 60%. Thus a getting into the debate of Hindu vs Hindutva  should not be the main plank.  Further only 50% of the 80% voted with this triple plank.  When he says that no opposition will be able to pose a challenge to BJP with out the Congress, he is talking about the Idea of the Congress, and it notion of nationalism, and development. However that idea of the Congress has shown a steady decline since 1985.  This is seen in the continuous decline of the number of  Congress MLAs in the country.

Opposition Unity at a national level is not possible with the regional parties,  because every regional party does not want that unity in their State. And the Congress just cannot abdicate itself from contest in most States.  The congress he says in its present structure is not able to protect and project  that idea of Congress. It can.  And it is not just leadership.  It is the structure. Even when Gandhii spoke about disbanding the Congress, he was not talking about disbanding the idea of Congress, so much as the building up of that idea of congress which hold that notion of nationalism, diversity, development.
