The apple growing season is going on, the apple growers hoped that this year they may get a good price for their crops. But the prices announced by the Adani group have shocked them. Go to market today, and just figured out at what prices apples are being sold. The best quality apples are being sold in Mumbai markets for almost 200-300 rs a KG. The lowest rate is anywhere between 50-75 Rs/ Kg. And do you know what is the price Adani group is offering Himachal apple growers? Minimum 12 Rs and Maximum 72 rupees. Yes, you heard it right. Last time I bought my groceries, 12 Rupees got me just a packate of noodles! not even onions or potatoes. And the Adani group wants to buy these apples at 12 rupees/KG.

Protesting Farmers Celebrate a Win as Adani Facility Shuts Down in Ludhiana https://thewire.in/agriculture/farmers-celebrate-as-protests-shut-down-adani-facility Punjabi protestors in Kila Raipur are in a celebratory mood for now. Sitting on dharna outside the Adani Logistics Park – or khusk bandargahs (dry ports) as they are locally called – the protestors have been able to challenge a big corporation with only their basic right to protest. Earlier this month, the Adani group filed a petition in the Punjab high court saying it will be shutting down operations at the Kila Raipur multi-modal logistics park after having incurred huge losses due to the dharna. The protestors feel this is a victory. 

Farmers continue to clash with BJP leaders in West UP. On 14th August, Umesh Malik, BJP MLA from Budhana (Muzaffarnagar district) was chased out of Sisauli village. BJP MP from Muzaffarnagar, Sanjeev Baliyan made a provocative speech in response to the incident.
Yesterday, on 17th August a massive Mahapanchayat of farmers took place in Sisauli village against BJP. Among all the charged speeches a very significant declaration was made- A Mahapanchayat will be held at Muzaffarnagar on 5th September where decisions will be made on how to deal with BJP.
Why is this significant? Well, on the exact same date 8 years back in 2013, a Mahapanchayat was held in Lissarh village, in Shamli district. This panchayat played a big role in creating a hostile environment between Jats and Muslims and paved the way for the Nangla Mandor Mahapanchayat on 7th September, following which the riots began in West UP.
