RG & US speech controversy Sukla Sen post:
<what Rahul Gandhi said in the US about Sikhs, their turban and kada. https://youtu.be/V0twrFSsr_Q >
It's more than obvious that he talked of Sikhs (first) only to illustrate and in the process of elaborating his views on the dangerous supremacist character of the RSS ideology and politics. How it threatens, actually and potentially, the self-respect and identities of all minorities -- religious and linguistic, in particular. In the very same breath, he also talked of "Tamil", "Marathi", "Bengali" etc etc. He made it starkly explicit by assertively claiming that the fight is about the rights of minorities -- all minorities. Nowhere -- repeat nowhere -- he said that Sikhs in India are not allowed to wear turbans and kadas.
That's a gross distortion. Much the same way Narendra Modi claimed (ref.: <https://youtu.be/XUp9luKnvFo> and <https://https://youtu.be/XUp9luKnvFo?si=c-H_EfLGanBysjoV-rXws4>, during the last poll campaign, that the Congress had imported X-ray machine(s) to find out hidden jewelleries in Hindu houses in order to confiscate and gift to Muslims by weaponising the word "X-ray" used by Rahul Gandhi, as a metaphor, to describe the purpose and function of the caste census demanded by him (ref.: < https://m.economictimes.com/news/elections/lok-sabha/india/congress-will-do-x-ray-of-country-through-caste-census-says-rahul-gandhi/articleshow/110054368.cms >)!
Yet, this video clip (< https://youtu.be/6RIgj0vpD10 >) put out by a major media outlet unabashedly claims in no uncertain terms that "Rahul Gandhi says Sikhs not allowed to wear turbans in India" in order to reinforce and amplify what the BJP leaders are mouthing: < https://www.ndtv.com/video/dangerous-narrative-minister-slams-rahul-gandhi-s-comment-on-sikhs-835827 >.
Just one example.
Banks and Disaster Relief https://www.cenfa.org/banks-and-disaster-relief/ Kerala Bank has to be congratulated for declaring that the loans given in the affected areas will be written off. Co-operative Banks will do the same. ..
the State Level Bankers Committee announced that the individual bank boards would take a call on the write-off. The loan outstanding in the area is only Rs. 32 crores, out of which the Housing Loans and Vehicle Loans are backed by insurance. The MSME loans including MUDRA loans should have a credit guarantee which can be claimed.
It is astonishing that almost one month has passed but no Bank board has announced the write-off. The Banks may be in a dilemma that similar demand will come during other disasters too. Yes, it will come. Banks may also be waiting for the Finance Ministry’s approval as Finance Ministry and RBI representatives are on every board. The Finance Ministry may think that opposition-ruled states should not be supported.
When banks could write off Rs. 25 lakh crore in the last 10 years, especially to the corporates, when the average haircut in National Company Law Tribunal referred cases is 67%, the banks should be generous in writing off loans of people in such disasters.
Banks should use this as an opportunity to give fresh loans to the affected people, spend their Corporate Social Responsibility funds for infrastructure funds and show that they are fulfilling their social responsibility.

Physicist MV Ramana on the problem with nuclear power https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/sep/04/mv-ramana-why-nuclear-power-not-solution-energy-needs
Maya Goodfellow 4 Sep 2024
most reasonable people have come to realise that in an age of climate crisis, we need low-carbon nuclear energy – alongside wind and solar power – to help us transition away from fossil fuel.. MV Ramana makes in his new book says.. nuclear is costly, dangerous and takes too long to scale up. Nuclear, the work’s title reads, is not the solution.
Nuclear creates fewer jobs than renewables per unit of energy generated, he says in the book, and when it comes to the latter, jobs are more geographically distributed. As for supplying vast amounts of energy globally, he sayd nuclear cannot be scaled up fast enough to “match the rate at which the world needs to lower carbon emissions” or to quickly provide to those without. It takes at least 15 to 20 years to plan for and build a nuclear plant and this would probably be much more difficult in the many countries that presently do not have the infrastructure for it.
Finally, Ramana is keen to point out that the nuclear energy industry only survives because of government support. Through electricity bills and taxes, the public often pay a significant amount toward building and running nuclear plants, as well as storing the waste. Governments also provide subsidies, skew electricity markets in favour of nuclear and form such tight relationships with industry that they end up repeating their propaganda, he says.
