Voices of Dissent Through Time | Romila Thapar @Manthan Samvaad '21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FUiZJbXE9g Oct 2, 2021
Romila Thapar: In viewing the Indian past we have pointed to consent in evolving ideas and have tended not to recognize the #dissent embedded in some views. We have assumed that Indian culture was a monolithic culture constructed on layers of consent from its participants. This was despite the underlining of the essential function of #dissent in advancing thought. Dissenting ideas can enrich cultural articulation. This talk attempts the recognition of elements of dissent from past times and asks whether a few strands might have continued into present times.
