The News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) has penalised some television channels and ordered the removal of certain programmes from their websites, saying that they spread hatred and communal disharmony and are “not in good taste”.
Ravish Kumar Official https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifTb4yVQZyo Mar 1, 2024
Four anchors of Godi Media have been exposed for raising the specter of love jihad and Muslim conspiracy. The TV regulator has found that these anchors' programs target any community and spread hatred without any deep investigation. You know these anchors. Recognize. NBDSA, the body of news channels, has found four anchors of three channels guilty. One has been warned and three have been fined. Their programs will be removed from the internet. But don't assume that such warnings or fines are going to make any difference to Godi Media's anti-Muslim propaganda. The incident in Kota shows that these same channels are again raising the bogus issue of Love Jihad without investigation. Hindu teachers and students of the same school have stood in support of the Kota teachers who have been accused of love jihad and religious conversion. Godi media has left you nowhere to show your face, but with the protest of these students, there is hope that one day everyone will get freedom from this hatred. Seeing these children, the useless uncles of the housing societies of metropolitan cities will one day feel ashamed of how much hatred they have sown in such a beautiful India. Therefore this story of Kota should be told to every child. However, there is no restriction on telling uncles.

Take down shows that spread hate: Regulator to Aaj Tak, News18 India, Times Now Navbharat https://indianexpress.com/article/india/take-down-shows-that-spread-hate-regulator-to-aaj-tak-news18-india-times-now-navbharat-9191177/lite/
The “NBDSA stated that the term ‘love jihad’ should not be used loosely and should be used with great introspection in future broadcasts as religious stereotyping can corrode the secular fabric of the country, cause irreparable harm to a community and create religious intolerance or disharmony,” the order stated.
The “NBDSA observed that there would have been no problem with the broadcast if the broadcaster had confined its analysis to the incidents of communal violence,” the order stated. “However, by broadcasting the following tickers ‘today Muslim areas, tomorrow Muslim country’, a completely different colour had been given to the programme.”
Another grievance was about a programme aired by India Today titled ‘Nudity sparks outrage at USA pride parades – How India’s LGBTQ+ lead Responsibly’, on which NBDSA held that using visuals and images totally out of context, which were not part of the incident covered was a violation of the principle of accuracy. Apart from following the Code of Ethics & Broadcasting Standards and Guidelines, members were also circulated a set of guidelines for broadcasting on issues concerning the LGBTQIA+ community, for “strict compliance”.
https://indianexpress.com/article/india/take-down-shows-that-spread-hate-regulator-to-aaj-tak-news18-india-times-now-navbharat-9191177/lite/ In the case of News18 India, the NBDSA imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for four shows it broadcast in 2022, hosted by Aman Chopra and Amish Devgan. On the shows, the anchors had said that the murder of Shraddha Walker by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala in 2022 was connected to “love jihad”.
I am opposed to "taking down" the offending videos. I would rather have a approved clip saying what the NBDSA feels about those hate portions. embedded/superimposed/intercut on the video itself..

LJ: Yes take down should be interim orders, passed immediately. It makes no sense after so much lapse of time.
Their 50000 fine is also nothing. They ought to impose exemplary fine after assessing damage.
In addition they should direct public notice and apology for fake news at the video locations, during prime time news and in leading dailies. And ofcourse the observations to be displayed on violating content.
While such orders provide delegitimisation, it doesnt even matter anymore when the damage is already allowed to be done over a long period. Passing such late orders without letting peopl know which part of content is false and how serious its impact was. The public should be enraged at being fooled after all.
SB: While the critique is absolutely valid, I think we should also see that at least one institution is trying to assert some constitutional values. Think of what an uphill task that might have been both for the complainant and the judge...
LJ: Nbsa has been passing orders, yet it has been quite soft in serious cases. The shraddha walkar coverage with love jihad propaganda was one of the worst. There is no doubt that nbsa is one of the few bodies that is doing even that, even as their intervention is limited these tv channels, news broadcasters. These orders need to have more teeth but and if they want to remove footage then it should happen immediately. I agree with John otherwise, unless the decision is embedded over the video then it is only washing away their sins rather than exposing them.
