#IndiaToday Group and #AajTak sent over 50 #copyright strikes and claims to Newslaundry. As a result, YouTube kept our channel in suspended animation.

You know what they say: when life gives you copyright strikes, make educational content out of it! So, in this episode, we take a deep dive into the Copyright Act of 1957, the definition of "fair use" exceptions, and whether it can be applied to news at all.

Newslaundry’s official YouTube channel has been locked out thanks to our dear Friends at #AajTak who have sent us one #copyright strike/claim after the other — in all we have over 50 copyright strikes and claims in the past two weeks, which basically means that our channel risks deactivation. But the dhulai must not stop.

US TV network CBS and makers Live Nation and Global Citizen said in a joint statement the show format "distracts" from the activists' work. "Global activism centres on collaboration and cooperation, not competition. We apologise to the activists, hosts, and the larger activist community - we got it wrong," said Global Citizen.

"'The Activist' was designed to show a wide audience the passion, long hours, and ingenuity that activists put into changing the world, hopefully inspiring others to do the same. However, it has become apparent the format of the show as announced distracts from the vital work these incredible activists do in their communities every day. The push for global change is not a competition and requires a global effort,"
"As a result, we are changing the format to remove the competitive element and reimagining the concept into a primetime documentary special (air date to be announced), it will showcase the tireless work of six activists and the impact they have advocating for causes they deeply believe in. Each activist will be awarded a cash grant for the organization of their choice, as was planned for the original show,"
