Apart from the hundreds who died waiting in line or without food, or even shock when they learned their money which they had stowed in sone trunk somewhere for a rainy day is worthless now, the real horror was in millions of children, pregnant women, young and old going hungry to bed, day after day after day. And this shows up in the worsening state of health in India, and the weakening of human bodies possibly worked adversely for many of them when covid struck with their nutrition levels down and immunity lowered.
It was not only an economically stupid decision, but worse, a most inhumane one. Most dangerously, it was a fascist testing his power over the State and a large population. To ensure we do not suffer due to such authoritarians any more, the Supreme Court is duty bound to test the legality of the Demonetisation Notification issued by @Reserve Bank of India due to a diktat from none other than @Narendra Modi. His was a decision as destructive of constitutionalism and democracy as was Indira Gandhi’s to declare Emergency.
