The Election Commission has taken cognisance of allegations of Model Code of Conduct violations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and also Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. https://thewire.in/government/election-commission-mcc-bjp-congress-modi-rahul

This comes after three days during which the poll body’s inaction over Modi’s April 21 speech at Banswara in Rajasthan has been severely criticised. A spokesperson, after repeated queries from reporters had said “we decline comment” on Modi’s speech on April 22.

The EC invoked Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act that pertains to star campaigners and has asked the respective party presidents to submit their reports by 11 am on April 29.

BJP ignores EC notice, JP Nadda echoes PM Modi's remark, says ‘Congress plots to transfer SC-ST rights to Muslims’

BJP president JP Nadda repeated PM's comments about alleged Congress line of thinking that Muslims should have priority in resources. This is despite the Election Commission's notice to the party over PM Modi's comments.

Nadda alleged that the main opposition party, the Congress, plans to take away the rights of lower-caste groups (SC, ST, and OBC) and give them to Muslims.

In a post on X in Hindi, Nadda said, “The hidden agenda of the Congress and INDI alliance is to snatch the rights of SC, ST and OBC and give it to Muslims. Congress says that Muslims have the first right on the country's resources, whereas Prime Minister Modi says that the poor have the first right on the resources. Congress hates SC, ST and OBC and appeasement is clearly visible in their manifesto too."
