7 more patients die in Maharashtra hospital after 24 deaths in 24 hours https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/death-toll-government-hospital-maharashtra-nanded-district-2443620-2023-10-03 The death toll at a government hospital in Maharashtra's Nanded district has gone up to 31 after the death of seven more patients. The authorities at Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital on Monday said the deaths occurred due to a shortage of medicines. The hospital's dean said the 12 children who died included six girls and six boys. He added that the twelve adults who died were due to various ailments including snake bites.
He explained that the hospital is only a "tertiary-level care centre" but patients come from different areas because it is the only health care centre in a 70-80 km radius. The number of patients admitted to the hospital sometimes exceeds the institute's budget, and that is why there was a shortage in medicines, he added.
