Plasticity—both in the brain and epigenetically—occurs all the time, be it wittingly or unwittingly. Most of the time our brains and bodies are shaped by forces around us that we’re not very aware of, and we can’t really control. The invitation from contemplative science is that we can take more responsibility for the shaping of our own brains and bodies, at least to some extent.
