We are excited to invite you to the *Gap Year Summit 2020*.

*The Indian Multiversity Alliance http://multiversities.net/unlock_your_year.html will be sharing many
amazing resources from its network to support your journey. We look forward
to seeing you and celebrating freedom with you!

These sessions will be conducted from 5th to 10th of September 2020 and
held through Zoom, Facebook Live and Basecamp.

*A gap year is just not a year away from classrooms, textbooks and exams.
It is an opportunity to deepen oneself through many diverse kinds of real
world experiences which engage the head, heart, hands and home. *

Although in theory it's possible (and enjoyable) to take a gap year at any
time in one's life, it's a good idea to grab the chance early on if you
can, before the responsibility of sustaining a job or family, or repaying
student loans ties you down. A gap year is an important rite of passage in
adulthood into many cultures. We recommend it for kids, youth and families.

There are so many good reasons for taking a pause during school or college
or after college. A gap year is a great way to step off the treadmill for a
while to recharge your batteries, to discover more about yourself and what
you love and enjoy. It is a way to have an inspiring adventure, discover
unusual paths, learn something new, deepen an existing interest or do some
work on your bucket list. It could nudge you out of your comfort zone and
help you find out what you are capable of. It is a great way to form new
relationships, pick up valuable life skills, gain more confidence,
independence and encounter different perspectives... and generally a great
way to rejuvenate your mind and heart!

We have observed that if students had more time to reflect, explore and
have widening experiences before they had to make decisions about the
course of their education and careers, (and before investing so much time
and money), perhaps they'd be better equipped to make more informed and
conscious choices. Many prestigious universities such as Harvard and
Princeton promote gap year options to their students. Many employers are
starting to prefer students who have taken a gap year.  Luckily, there are
many exciting Indian projects such Anveshan, Khoj, Shikshantar, Swashikshan
and LSUC who have been encouraging and supporting gap year students over
the years.

With the aim of inspiring and supporting youth *(13 to 27 year old)* and
families who would like to consider taking a gap year, we are proposing a
summit of* 6 days (15 sessions) *entitled "Unlock Your Year!"

These sessions will be conducted from 5th to 10th of September 2020 and
held through Zoom, Facebook Live and Basecamp. The sessions will be
facilitated by friends in the field of alternative education like Vidhi
Jain (Shikshantar), Aneeta Pathak (Anveshan), Manish Jain (Swaraj
University), Vipul Shaha (Khoj), Prachi Mittal (Pitaara), Pashwa Jhala
(Families Learning Together), Ashish Tiwari (Creativity Adda) to name a
few. Participants will be introduced to a host of youth, families and
employers who will share their gap year stories and be available to answer
questions and share tips. Several workshops on how to plan your gap year,
how to convince your parents, how to travel without much money, and how to
develop your portfolio will be offered. Lastly, one-on-one and group
coaching will be available to support you in taking the next steps.
