WA: death penalty? Death penalty is being asked for in so many cities and states

WA: AA:

In 2012 they didn't just rape her, they played with her intestine. This was in Delhi and they named her Nirbhaya.

In  2017 they didn't just rape her, they hung her on a tree. This was in Unnao and they named her Nirbhaya 2.

In 2019 they didn't just rape her, they burnt her alive. This was in Hyderabad and they named her Nirbhaya 3.

From ages to 2019, all we are doing is burning candles, blackening our DP, commenting on few fb pages and forget it within a week. Days pass by and we have Nirbhaya 4, 5, 6.

When currency can be changed overnight, when special session can be called to increase the salary of politicians, when Parliament can remain open all night for trust votes, wondering what is delaying to pass a stringent law against rape.

WA: On Capital Punishment

Any legally administered punishment has three purposes: Restrain, Reform and Retribution.

So, only the third purpose i.e. retribution is served. Those affected feel that justice has been done. Hence, there's also the notion of proportionality.
This primordial urge, deep embedded in human psyche, has got to be muted and not inflamed, if crime rates are to be brought down.

WA: JD It has been proved that capital punishment has not been a deterrent.    Also, when there is capital punishment the bar for proof is much higher.  And since in rape cases,  we have only the testimony of the victim, these days the brutality goes to more bizarre extents, even death.  Social ostracization and rigorous imprisonment is a better deterrent.   Confiscation of all assets and handing them over to the victim could work...
