Over 7 lakh people rendered homeless in last two years: Report https://maktoobmedia.com/india/over-7-lakh-people-rendered-homeless-in-last-two-years-report/

In the last two years (1 January 2022 to 31 December 2023), over 1.5 lakh houses were demolished by state authorities in India—at the central, state, and local levels—thereby, resulting in the forceful eviction of over 7.4 lakh people from their homes, Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) claimed in a new report released a new report.

Demolishing Muslim Properties in India https://inkstickmedia.com/demolishing-muslim-properties-in-india/ The demolitions by the BJP government are framed as “retribution” and “punishment” for Muslims for participating in anti-government protests — a gross violation of human rights, and a clear example of extrajudicial punishment even if the accusations are true. Most observers, however, see the violence as purely ethnically motivated. Now the BJP party has turned to targetted demolitions

In June 2022, Three United Nations Special Rapporteurs for Housing, Minority Issues and Freedom of Religion wrote a joint letter to the Indian government strongly criticizing and protesting arbitrary housing and property demolitions ordered by local governments to punish Muslim minorities. The letter claims the Indian government has carried out “collective punishment” against the minority Muslim community.
